How to extract audio from video files

While we accept either audio or video files for transcription, clients on the other hand may be in a big hurry lots of times, or may have a slower internet connection for whatever reason, and so handling and uploading audio files which are smaller in size, gets much easier for them. There are plenty of easy ways to extract audio from video, some of which we are going to share today for the benefit of our readers and clients.

One of the easiest ways to convert video to audio is if you’re using any sound editing software, for example Sound Forge or Sony Vegas, you can simply open the video file, and then “Save As” an MP3 file or any of the number of different audio formats. If not, then here are some free and equally easy ways to extract audio from video files:

1. Extracting the sound from a video with VLC
Click on Media, scroll to Advanced Open File.
In the File Tab, click on Add and select the video.
Click the Convert button
On the next window, enter the output path.
Select the encapsulation method WAV.
Once the WAV file is created, it is possible to convert it to a number of formats, including MP3.

2. Audacity:
Audacity is one of the best known open source (free) audio editing software and cross-platform, meaning it has versions for Windows, Mac and Linux. While there may not be a direct way to do it, this software is very feature rich, and can be used to extract audio from certain video file types.

3. IExtractMP3:
You can Google the name of this software and then download it from there. This one is for Apple Mac users, and it can extract the sound from FLV files. It doesn’t reduce the quality of audio while extracting it.

4. Pazera Audio Extractor:
Link here. This is free software to extract audio from video files. As of now, it works with Windows only and can extract audio from a variety of file formats like AVI, WMV, VOB, MP4 and more. The output formats could be MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC etc. The best thing about this software is that it comes with some pre-defined settings, and is straightforward and very easy to use. You can even use it to convert audio from one format to another.
